AS Arranging lesson task Tuesday 6th March 2012

Today we will spend some time creating arrangements of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head. However, for a change we will create the arrangements using live instruments, accompanied by sequenced rhythm tracks. You will work in small groups as follows:

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL – GROUP 1 – Tom Hutchison, Jason Smith, Tessa Shaddock – your arrangement must be in or 12/8 time in the style Unchained Melody/The Great Pretender by The Platters.

TRIP HOP – GROUP 2 – Niall Turner, Laurence Barltrop, Eddy Fuller, Katie Hobson – your arrangement must be in the style of Teardrop by Massive Attack.

TRIP HOP – GROUP 3 – Joe Pickup, Theo Georgiou, Josh Matthews, Joe Davis in the style of Roads by Portishead.

Your first task is to create a drum groove in Logic. Use the reference track as a clear guide.  Then create a reharmonised treatment bearing in mind the harmonic approach of the reference track. This must include a keyboard part, bass line and guitar part.

You will perform your fine arrangements and I will record them for posterity!

You will have 15 minutes at the end of our first lesson to listen to your reference tracks and start work on grooves. Then you can use practice room during period 5 to work up the arrangement. Performances at 3:10pm prompt!
